John T. Meyer Jr.

January 1979-June 1980

Military/ Air Force

Novice 250 class #247

Pacers President from January 1980 – June 1980

Raced a 1978 YZ 250 and a borrowed RM 125 from Tatsuo Mr. Bike for an endurance race before I left Okinawa.

The Air Force gave me 15 days permissive TDY to represented (did not race) Pacers Motocross Club in the 4th annual International Motocross races in Guam February 1980 and in the 2nd annual International Motocross Northern Marians in Saipan March 1980.

Met Johnny O’Mara, Tim Locey and Rick Miller who came from the USA with Dick Miller the editor of Motocross Magazine.

My mentors and people who supported me while I was president were Mr. Berentsen, Mr. Gibson, Mr. Kinder, Mr. Pollone, Mr. Matsuda, “Mr. Bike" Tatsuo and Mr. Kikuzato

Tatsuo Tsuha He was always trying to help someone and volunteering for everything. He was our interpreter, flagman mechanic and anything else he could do. He loaned me a bike less than a month before I went back to the US so I could race in endurance race.Tatsuo was unbelievable guy. He took me out to dinner because he wanted to explain an Okinawan meal not only the taste but the presentation. I was so young and didn’t understand his depth of knowledge.

Mr. Matsuda let me use a Mazda RX-7 for weekend to tour the island.

I can’t describe the friendship that was given to me while being a member of the club, but I will always remember it! I was just a novice racer but felt like I was chasing DeCoster and Hannah in every race I competed in.

Practice March 1979
